Gayle (Gail) Borg Groo, 90, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at her home in Orem, Utah. She was born December 5, 1918, in Richfield, Utah to Hans Egeda & Martine Anine Juliane Sorensen Borg.

Gayle graduated from West High School, Salt Lake City. During WWII she was an executive officer of The Women's Army Volunteer Corps, Hawaii and secretary to the U.S. Attorney in Hawaii. In San Francisco, California, she worked as the office & shop supervisor for Bernhards Custom Furniture. She was later employed as secretary to the director of Juvenile Corrections in San Mateo County, California.

She was a member of The Church of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Gleaner Advisor, both Ward and Stake Young Women's President, Ward Chorister, Relief Society Chorister, and early morning Seminary Teacher. She loved scrap booking and sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gayle Jeanne Lockwood and Pamela Claire Peterson both of Orem, Utah and 7 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Whitney Groo, Jr. and siblings, Edwin Borg, Iola Beutler and Jack Borg.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Northridge Stake Center, 1660 North 200 West, Orem, Utah. Family and friends may call Thursday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be held at Orem City Cemetery.

Thanks for posting this - I am one of the grand-daughters of this wonderful woman.

Just a fun note on her name: She was given the name "Gail" Borg at birth, but she had a friend with the same name in elementary school who spelled it "Gayle." My grandmother thought that it looked much nicer spelled like that, so she started using "Gayle" all the time. Her parents were fine with it and she continued to use that spelling throughout the rest of her life.
