Jack W. Borg was born in Richfield, Utah, on March 29, 1916, son of Hans and Martina Borg. He was one of four children with an older brother, Edwin, older sister, Iola, and baby sister, Gayle. In 1928, The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he graduated from West High School in 1936.

Jack was introduced to financing in by his favorite uncle Al Manning, joining Al's team at Household Finance Co. (HFC) in 1937, and continued in consumer financing all of his life. This career journey, spanning over 50 years included serving as second vice president in installment loans at Continental Bank and Trust Company. His extensive community service activities included serving as President of the Credit Bureau's Board of Directors. After retiring from Continental Bank, Jack became an account executive at the Credit Bureau of Salt Lake City.

Jack met his bride, Dorothy (Thomsen), at her place of employment, Hayes Brothers Studebaker. They were married April 5, 1952. They shared a love of dancing, especially to one of favorite songs, "Mack the Knife." Jack also enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, and golf, but his pride and joy was his wife Dorothy. Together they cherished annual visits from their four children and two grandchildren. After 50 years together in Utah, Jack and Dorothy relocated to New Mexico to live with their daughter Heather and family friend, Rachelle in 2002.

Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Holly (Ken) Kowall of St. Louis, Heidi (Paul) Frank of Portland, OR, Dr. Heather Borg of Bosque Farms, NM, and Bruce of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Elizabeth Erdman of Los Angeles and Benjamin Erdman of St. Louis; sister, Gayle Groo of Provo, UT; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jack passed away quietly from pneumonia complications under hospice care in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 14, 2004. Thanks to the ARMC Hospice staff for providing wonderful care to Jack. A private gathering celebrating Jack's life will be held at daughter Heather's, home in Albuquerque at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family request donations sent to the American Diabetes Foundation. Fish Lake is calling...

New software

Sence 2001 I've used two database software to help keep track of our research. Program #1 is Family Search's Personal Ancestral File (PAF) and program #2 has been Family Tree Legends (FTL). FTL has been a good program except for one thing. I've lost contact with Pearl Street Software and that means no support. No support for thier website, GenCircles, and the software. After one year with zero support I've went for a change. My choice after looking at many programs is Roots Magic and it has been a good choice. If you are looking for a genealogy software program there is two I would recommend. PAF5 has always worked well for me. RootsMagic4 sofar is doing a great job and there is plenty of support out there for this program. There is a blog for Roots Magic 4 that might enterest the reader, http://blog.RootsMagic.com . Watch for more Borg Family genealogy and information to be posted in the near future.

Richfield Baseball Team of 1910

Back row second from left is my Grandfather Hans E. Borg. Hans played ball for the Richfield, Utah City Team for several years. I understand there is a picture of Hans in his Baseball uniform, dating 1902, hanging on a bank wall in Richfield. I've written to the banks in Richfield, Utah for verification, however non have ever written back.

Notes regarding one of my favorite ancestors

Great-Great Uncle Lars P. Borg was a harness maker and he had a Harness and Leather Shop at 552 South First East St.,Salt Lake City between 1875 and 1887. During this time period his wife,Mrs. Annie S. Borg & Mrs. Emma Smith Borg, Had a Mercantile Store at 558 South First East St., Salt Lake City, Ut. Around 1887 Lars moved his Harness & Leather Shop to 978 E. Fourth So. St and opened his dairy at So. State Road., 1/4 mile South of S.L.C., Utah. Records show that Lars and His son Louis P Borg was running the dairy in 1890.

Lars P. Borg Passed on 4 January 1904, age 70 at his dairy, 3112 South State, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

Lars P. Borg came to America in 1860 Traveling from Sweden to England, And leaving England 11 May 1860 aboard the William Tapscott to America.

A Chinaman, called Tom, had a vegetable garden which was located from Third East to State Street, and covered a large area of the land in the Liberty Ward. Alfred Best purchased a fifty-acre farm bordering Murphy's Lane on the south and extending from Ninth to Eleventh East. The Sprowl and Borg families had dairies. They lived on State Street and pastured their cows along the creek banks. They sent wagonloads of milk into the city to serve hotels, eating houses, and the city residents.

Lars Peter Borg was Baptized by Jens Jenson on 20 Aug 1857. He was a local missionary in Sweden until he emigrated to Utah in 1860. Then in July 1869- 15 Jul 1871 he served as Traveling Elder in Norway and later in the Skane Conference, Sweden. Lars returned to Salt Lake City, UT and continued the harness and sadle making trade.

My father's home town.

This is the Richfield, Sevier County, Utah my father would always talk about. The Borg's from Sweden came to Utah Territory in the 1860's. From that time on most (not all) the family was born in Richfield and Mt Pleasant cities. My Great Grandfather, Ole P. Borg, settled in Richfield around 1870.

The Borg Brothers in business

Hans E. Borg was born in Richfield in 1886 and in 1907 was married to Miss Martina Sorenson. Four children have come to bless this union: Edwin, Iola, Jack and Gale. Daniel Erastus Borg was born in Richfield in 1888 and wedded Miss Mary Clapp, a daughter of Elijah Clapp, of Sevier county. They have six interesting children: Kenneth, Virginia, Mildred, Dean, Dorothy and Louine. Such in brief is the history of the Borg Brothers, who occupy a most prominent and enviable position in business circles in Richfield, none deserving or enjoying a more creditable reputation for commercial enterprise and integrity.
